FAQ - Koch Method Training Guide
Q. How is the Koch Method different from other methods?
Traditional methods have you memorize a chart and start slowly. The Koch Method has you learn the sound patterns at your target speed from the start, adding one new character each time you are comfortable.
Q. What WPM should I start at?
Beginners should start at 15-20 WPM. If it is too slow you end up decoding by counting dits and dahs, which makes it hard to speed up later. Starting fast pays off in the long run, even if it feels hard at first.
Q. Why start with K and M?
MORSE HQ starts training with K (-·-) and M (--), two characters with clearly different rhythms. Once you can reliably tell them apart, the next characters are added one at a time.
Q. What accuracy should I reach before moving on?
MORSE HQ aims for 90% accuracy at the current level. When the characters start to sound consistently clear, add the next one to widen your practice range.
